Oscar is very knowledgeable and very willing to educate the seller on how to get the best price for your gold and silver. He is independently owned and he will give you a fair and accurate price for your valuables. The big franchise pawn shops and brokers use over-hyped radio sales to get you in the door but they will give you a significantly lower price (I experienced this myself). You won’t get a better price anywhere in Portland. Highly recommended.

Oscar at Portland Gold Buyers is fantastic. Admittedly he was my third stop but I’m glad I came across him.To begin with I was given quotes by two other buyers in town that seemed relatively reasonable for the old wedding band I was selling. Then I went to Oscar. It would be best to make an appointment as he is a busy guy. Even though he wasn’t in when I arrived, I called the number listed online and he assured me he would arrive to take care of me in fifteen minutes or less, which he did. Kudos for setting proper expectations.
When I arrived we went into his office where he appraised the ring. He inspected, told me about how the gold market works. Who knew there was a different price for gold depending on whether it’s being melted, sold as a piece, etc? I sure didn’t but he took the time to explain it all to me.

Then his service got even better. At first he came in roughly $7 less than what I had been quoted at other places. He explained clearly why he couldn’t give me more than that for the gold the ring contained. However, wanting to keep my business he immediately called a friend who might be interested in the small diamonds the ring contained, emailed him photos of the ring and in minutes was able to match the price the other places had given me.

Oscar is cordial, friendly and ultimately the best game in town based on price and service. Next time I want/need to sell gold I’ll definitely be going to see Oscar.

Oscar was clearly an expert in relation to silver. He was informative, kind, and a great conversationalist on top of providing a great price for my mom’s silverware. I felt right at home. My wife and I met with Oscar Morante recently to have him evaluate some gold and silver items that we wanted to sell. He was diligent to explain the whys and wherefores of the selling/buying process and took the steps necessary to make us a fair offer. Oscar is thorough and very open about the entire process.

Before we had our appointment with Oscar, we visited another gold/silver buyer in the area. Oscar worked harder to determine the true value of each and every piece, and beat the other offer we received by over 10%.

“I had an excellent experience selling my gold to Oscar. I didn’t know what to expect and was a little worried about the whole process since I had heard horror stories about people sending their gold to gold buyers who did not give them a fair deal. Oscar gave me a very fair deal and from what I can tell from calling around and comparison shopping beforehand he pays the highest price around! I called several places and got bids for as low as 25% of the actual value of the gold — and that was from a well known jeweler. Oscar’s location is perfect — right in downtown Portland and discreetly located in a very nice, secure office in an easy to find building. So you are one on one with him with no one waiting in line behind you or looking over your shoulder to see what you brought in — or what you are leaving with. He tested my gold and then weighed it right in front of me. It turned out I had more gold weight-wise than I thought and was very happy with what he paid me. I took several very nice pieces of gold and diamond jewelry to Oscar. I had the appraisal amounts for several pieces — these proved to be unrealistic. Oscar explained the procedure, price paid for gold and diamonds, and the measures used to evaluate the value. It is easy to expect more than you will receive. I was disappointed but was treated fairly. Oscar is personable, pleasant, and well informed. I negotiated a bit which was appropriate for a business transactions. I was a little worried at the funky location — it was fine. I enjoyed Oscar’s unconventional approach. I may have made more elsewhere — who knows. I will refer my friends who may wish to sell their jewelry. I was given cash and an escort to the door. It was a good experience. I will go back again!

I researched well before I helped my friend sell her first round of jewelry from her husband’s estate. I called and spoke to Oscar about the jewelry I was considering selling. I liked the fact that he spent time teaching me about gold weights and their worth so I made an appointment to go see him.

When I gave Oscar my item in person, he weighed and tested it and made me a fair offer. It wasn’t an expensive piece but the offer was much more than I paid for it.

I have sold gold and silver to Oscar on three occasions, and each experience was extremely positive for many reasons. Oscar is attentive, friendly, professional and highly knowledgeable. He explains the entire selling process to you in a manner that is easy to understand. Every interaction I have had with him has made it clear to me that Oscar values his customers and truly wants them to get the most money for their metal. Oscar evaluates each piece of metal you bring in with the utmost of care and attention. He has numerous tools and techniques to test for authenticity and maximize value. On one occasion, he even gave me some tools so that I could pry a small piece of 18k gold off a larger silver pendant. This extra step put even more money in my pocket! Other buyers might have noted and then ignored this 18k piece and just bought the pendant using the much lower price of silver.

Selling old jewelry and precious metals can be a sensitive affair. You want to work with someone who has your best interests at heart and wants to get you the best deal. I always feel like I’m in great hands with Oscar. He is the only person I will ever sell my metal to!

Each ad claimed to be better than the others, highest price, most trustworthy, best ranked. I was leaning towards Liberty and LaRog. When I GOOGLED to see what others said I found negative comments about LaRog but many positive comments about Liberty and another company, Portland Gold Buyers. I took my �stuff� to the Liberty office and they were extremely nice and not intimidating. They weighed and tested everything in front of me and gave me a copy of the estimate with no pressure to make a commitment. It took no more than 30 minutes. I came to Portland Gold Buyer with just a little earring. Before going in, I felt kinda weird having such a small piece of jewelry to be appraised, like I might be wasting his time, but that wasn’t the case at all. I went to see Oscar Morante and Portland Gold Buyers after doing some Internet research through Google and on Craigslist. Word of mouth is always the best advertisement, and the reviews from others thoroughly convinced me to make an in-person visit. I wasn’t about to throw my wedding ring into an envelope to some company on the other side of the country and hope for the best, but I also didn’t want to go to 16 different jewelry stores or establishments with the sign out front that says, “We pay top dollar for your gold!” only to get ripped off.

I arrived at Oscar’s and was treated fairly and with respect. Being a first-time seller of jewelry and anticipating a hefty markdown due to tons of assumed fees involved in converting the metal into scrap, I confess that I had that cigar-smoking, wife-beater-swearing, fast-talking car salesman-like image of a pawnbroker in my head when I walked in, but happily Oscar exhibited none of those traits…rather, he was well-dressed, polite, kind, patient and clearly knowledgeable from the start. He stood up, shook my hand and invited me to have a seat while I presented the 18k gold wedding band to him. He weighed my ring in front of me and immediately had me feel at ease. He inspected the ring, consulted the day’s gold prices, did some quick calculations and offered me a price that far exceeded what I thought I would be able to get by several hundred dollars. Oscar went over the paperwork with me, explained how he came to the price he offered and within minutes was laying cash in front of me.

The process could not have been more painless…literally about 15 minutes from the time I walked in to when Oscar escorted me back to the elevator with my wallet considerably fatter. I would unhesitatingly recommend anyone looking to sell or buy gold or precious metals to call or stop by and talk to Oscar. He is conveniently located near a MAX station; there is also a Smart Park garage literally across the street.

My first impression of Oscar is that he’s a very straightforward and honest person. This is world of specialized and esoteric knowledge. Who hasn’t been victimized by an unscrupulous plumber or car mechanic? Few people have the ability to estimate the value of their gold items. It demands skill, experience and specialized equipment, but perhaps most important, an unwavering commitment to inform and serve the client with the goal of achieving a fair and honest transaction. I brought in a gold necklace and a gold wedding band that weighed a total of about 1 ounce, and a fistful of silver US coins. Oscar was professional and performed a material test on the gold items in my presence, explaining the process. I was offered a price on all of it that I was comfortable with and accepted. I received cash on the spot. Oscar is very personable. I’m telling my friends about him since he seems trustworthy.

Impressive! I had a small amount of random gold and silver that wasn’t being used so after reading the on-line reviews of this company, I really wanted to meet Oscar. I took it to four sellers: a large jewelry store with an advertisement for buying gold, a small jewelry store I’ve dealt with in the past, and two Portland gold buyers with very solid reviews, one of whom was Oscar. Oscar gave me by far the best price, which was double the lowest offer that I received. Oscar was also the only one who took the time to test the gold purity; the others relied on the stamp on the inside of the ring.
